KCLSO Spring Concert 2017: 1st Apr 7:30pm [Holy Trinity Church, Prince Consort Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 2BA]

King’s College London Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the 2016/17 season.
 
To round off what has been a fantastic year, KCLSO presents a programme with a nautical twist. Repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s ‘The Hebrides’ and ‘Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage’ and to finish off our programmatic voyage, Debussy’s symphonic masterpiece ‘La Mer’. We are also thrilled to welcome our first concerto winner of this season to the stage, Debbie Barnes, who will be performing Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto.

| CANDIDE | OPERA IN CONCERT

Produced by King’s Opera and King’s College London Symphony Orchestra, this iconic opera by Leonard Bernstein will be performed in concert by an incredibly talented cast of players and singers.

Based on the classic satire written by Voltaire and set to Bernstein’s stunning score, this story is not to be missed.

New Assistant Conductor for the 2016/17 season

We are delighted to announce Igor Maia as our new Assistant Conductor for the 2016/17 Season! Igor will be making his debut with KCLSO in our Spring Concert in February 2017 where we’ll be putting on an opera in concert – Leonard Bernstein’s Candide – in an exciting collaboration with King’s Opera!

Igor is a PhD music student at King’s College London, studying under the supervision of Professors Silvina Milstein and George Benjamin, as well as studying analysis and music theory under Professor Arnold Whittall.

Meanwhile, don’t miss your last chance to watch our current Assistant Conductor, Jeremy Walker, back from Russia where he now studies conducting at Moscow State Conservatoire – conduct his last project with KCLSO. He will be conducting Khachaturian’s Spartacus Suite No.2 in our first concert of this season in St Pancras Church (Euston), December 3rd.

Applications for Assistant Conductor Auditions are NOW open!

Applicants should prepare ‘Death of Tybalt’ from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet (scores can be found online on imslp and in the library). The audition will take place on the morning of Saturday, 12th November 2016, where the applicant will be allocated a section of the score to rehearse the orchestra with. At the end of the auditions, the assistant conductor will then be chosen by KCLSO member vote. The deadline to apply is the 10th of November.

Application should be made to kclsymphonyorchestra@googlemail.com. Please include a brief CV of relevant experience.
