King’s College London Symphony Orchestra is rounding off this very successful season in the Rhine Valley, which runs along a short stretch of the river between Frankfurt and Cologne. The orchestra will be performing an array of exciting repertoire, Dvorak’s New World Symphony and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espangol, under the batons of Jonathan Lo and Igor Maia.
We are fortunate to present one of our 2016-17 Season Concerto Competition winners, Stefan Cunningham, who will be performing Nielsen’s Flute Concerto with us, a piece which was written whilst Nielsen himself was travelling through Germany in 1926.

KCLSO took to Europe for a 6-day summer tour. Performing Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony and the Arutiunian Trumpet concerto in gorgeous venues in Oberzissen – Germany, Verviers – Belgium and Charleville – France, it was a hugely successful tour, packed with exciting activities such as visiting the Lindt Chocolate Factory in Cologne, the War Museum of Bastogne and the underground cave network in Valkenburg.
We would like to thank the fantastic India D’Arcy for her impeccable planning of the week’s activities, the equally fantastic Alec Harmon for his organisation of tour members, and Andrews Coaches for two of the best coach drivers we could have had to get us back home amidst Calais chaos!
Further thanks to Jonathan Lo, Simon Williams and Jeremy Walker for conducting such great repertoire and helping us perform to the greatest of our abilities. Finally, congratulations are in order to Emily Mitchell for her flawless performances of the Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto! To the locals of Oberzissen, Verviers and Charleville, we thank you for your hospitality and for being such wonderful audiences!
June 2014 saw KCLSO embark on a 5-day tour of Belgium, performing a series of successful concerts to packed venues. As well as a fantastic musical experience, the tour provided lots of time for members to socialise with each other and take in a few of the many tourist attractions around the country.
